important victory over Ankaraspor

By: j | November 16th, 2008

Luis Aragonés Fenerbahçe advanced their unbeaten streak to five matches as they efficiently dispatched Ankaraspor 2-0. The victory sends the Yellow Canaries temporarily to fourth in the table, with results from todays Süper Lig matches still to come.

The victory was far from an attractive match and overall play was certainly lacking however in a tumultuous year, three points are welcomed in any manner. Clearly Fenerbahçe is riding a wave of confidence and able to continue with momentum. Two minutes past the half-hour mark a free-kick was re-directed to Robert Carlos in close-range and he neatly drove the ball to the back of the net. Nine minutes after the break, Robert Carlos was involved in the scoring again as his drive clanged off the post and Diego Lugano poached on the rebound to bring the match to its final 2-0 score-line. With the two goal advantage Fenerbahçe definitely seemed satisfied to play behind the ball and hold on for the victory, which they did admirably.

Yellow Canary supporters will be sad to hear that Semih Şentürk came out of the match early suffering a knee injury. Results have yet to be announced but one available I will post.

I hope for the national team’s sake that Semih’s all right. With a lack of ready strikers, we can use him.
