Title challenger Fenerbahçe’s inconsistency continued with a defeat by a valiant Trabzonspor at Avni Aker Stadium. First half goals from Mehmet Topuz (o.g.), Ibrahim Yattara and Arkadiusz Glowacki were enough to secure the win for Trabzonspor side who managed by Coach Şenol Güneş.
Fenerbahçe’s Captain Alex de Souza and youngster Miroslav Stoch has been rested for Thursday night’s Europa League play-off and they both surprisingly started from the bench yesterday aganist Maroon-Blues.
Good News: Homegrown goalkeeper Mert Günok gave a solid performance and saved a penalty. New signing Mamdou Niang has shown that he has a great strength and the ability to hold up the ball well and could play very well alongside Semih Şentürk and Alex de Souza. The Yellow Canaries applied some late pressure on second half but a resolute Trabzonspor deservedly held on for three points.
Bad News: the problems for Fenerbahçe were lack of quality on defense and a balanced midfield line. Trabzonspor wingers Alanzinho-Yattara attacked very well by reason of wing backs Gökhan Gönül-André Santos couldn’t protect their positional awarness in the whole match. Box-to-box player Selçuk İnan and strong midfielder Ceyhun Gülselam caused lots of threat for Trabzonspor especially first balls and through balls were real danger against Fenerbahçe to overcome the limited midfield players. Last night Cristian Baroni has shown that he’s completely incompetent player to play in Fenerbahçe.
