Fenerbahçe v FK Partizan match review

By: j | August 27th, 2008

Fenerbahçe advanced in the Champions League with a narrow 2-1 victory over Serbian powerhouse FK Partizan at Şükrü Saracoğlu.

Fenerbahçe limped into the match with a number of absenses including a late deletion of Emre Belözoğlu. However the unexpected return of Semih Şentürk, who was expected to miss the match, paid rich dividends as he got the home squad onto the scoresheet at the twenty-eight minute, heading Uğur Boral’s cross. At the fifty-eighth minute, Daniel Güiza, racing down the left channel, crossed a perfect ball that a diving Alex sent to the back of the net. A stunning goal and certainly a highlight film goal to be remembered. As I noted in the preview, Partizan’s young winger Zoran Tošić is ripe with promise and consistently caused havoc in the attack. At the seventy-eighth minute he hit stunning, free kick that dropped off the table to dip under bar and bring the Serbian squad to within one. While under considerable pressure Fenerbahçe was able to hold on and now advances in the Champions League.

As a special mention, Luis Aragonés commented post-match:

”Our fans created a magnificent atmosphere tonight. I liked the way they supported and motivated us very much. They were absolutely gorgeous.”

As I expected, as always, the twelfth man of Şükrü Saracoğlu were immeasurable in pushing the Yellow Canaries to victory!

Unfortunately there will be little time to recover as Fenerbahçe faces Istanbul Buyuksehir BSK on Saturday.

And what about offside called when Partizan scored it’s first goal?

    thank you for dropping by.

What was your take on it? To me, while Fenerbahçe won, they hung on to the victory and defense weaknesses as well as concentration was exposed. They show some brilliance in the attack but they just don’t appear confident to me in that zone as well.

I’m saying that Partizan’s first goal was regular actually it was auto goal from Fenerbahce, there was no offside at all! While in the first game Fener made a second goal from offside position. So I’m saying that ref’s helped Fener to advance!

Gravedigger – now I understand what you meant, thank you for explaining. I agree with you regarding the first match and Fenerbahçe was very lucky to come out with a draw, much less winning this match. If it hadn’t been for Alex’s finish off a great feed by Güiza, I doubt they would have got by as they really aren’t playing well as a team. Partizan is a very good squad and were extremely hurt by the loss of Zoran Tošić to the Olympics. A shame they won’t advance because I think they are better then a number of clubs. Do you follow a lot of Serbian Football?
