Fenerbahçe v Beşiktaş match preview

By: j | April 30th, 2009

Entering the final month of the campaign, Fenerbahçe’s hopes of salvaging a disappointing season are growing dim. As Luis Aragonés’ side face rivals Beşiktaş on Sunday at İnönü Stadyumu they not only have a chance to climb back into the contention for a European spot but equally knock the Black Eagles off-course in their pursuit of the Süper Lig crown. However it is a unique situation because the Yellow Canaries have shown a complete lack of discipline over the last month and validating the consensus through their play that Mr. Aragonés will be leaving Istanbul in June.

For Sunday’s battle Fenerbahçe welcomes back Semih Şentürk and Volkan Demirel from the sin-bin but Diego Lugano will continue to watch for the next two weeks. Preliminary injury reports suggest that Gökhan Gönül, Önder Turacı, Deniz Barış and Alex will be available for the match. İnönü Stadyumu has been a fortress for Beşiktaş this year and to earn a win the Yellow Canaries will need to find a deeper sense of pride than what they have shown recently.
