Fenerbahçe misses chance with draw to Kocaelispor
By: j | March 16th, 2009Fenerbahçe missed a perfect opportunity to advance in the table with 1-1 draw to Kocaelispor at Şükrü SaraçoÄŸlu. Luis Aragonés jumped to quick lead only two minutes in as Robert Carlos connected with a powerful drive from a set-piece play. With the goal advantage the Yellow Canaries went forward thirsting for another strike but time after time the final touch was lacking. Deniz Barış missed a point-blank effort soon thereafter but slowly Fenerbahçe came unglued and the visitors were able to attack unmarked. Whilst Volkan Babacan put forth a yeoman effort, the wave of attack seemed endless and finally with only three minutes remaining Júlio César Moreira sprung free and pounded the ball in. Now level, Fenerbahçe went looking for the winner but “close” was all they could get and the match wound down to a disheartening 1-1 draw.
