Fenerbahçe Loses 1-0 to Paok But Keep Europa League Hopes Alive

Paok 1-0 Fenerbahce Alex d Souza

Fenerbahçe suffered a 1-0 away defeat by Paok in the first leg of their Europa Cup play-off round tie. Despite an decent start from Yellow Canaries, Greek side ensured their progress with a nice shot from Vieirinha on 19th minutes and that was the only goal in the match. In fact, the only bright spot right now is that new singing Mamadou Niang’s good performance.

It’s obvious that coach Aykut Kocaman will make a tactical rotation through the second leg of game along with limited variation in attack. Both Selçuk Şahin and Cristian Baroni are the most natural choices for defensive midfield duties and aren’t capable of being the attacking force. Fenerbahçe have a number of box-to-box midfield players capable of creative roles like Emre Belözoğlu, Özer Hurmacı, Gökay İravul and Mehmet Topuz. They are talented players to play in the middle and hope to see at least one of them on pitch for the next match.

Fenerbahçe Ulu Önder Atatürk'ün Selanik'teki evini ziyaret etti

On the other hand, Fenerbahçe’s Chairman Aziz Yıldırım, Board of directors and players has visited the house where Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, was born. That was the most exciting moment in Thessaloniki for Team Fenerbahçe. We remember Mustafa Kemal Atatürk the great leader of modern Turkey with respect, praise and gratitude.

Fenerbahce will face with PAOK in the second leg on Thursday 26th August at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.

It was indeed a good match with team Paok being overwhelmingly superior especially in the first half, scoring one goals and missing sure-to-score chances hence leaving FB with only a goal against aggregate. The entrance on the second half of Niang indeed added quality to the attacking quality of FB.To the latter, the unfair expulsion of player Vitolo with a second yellow card with Niang feigning and the the German referees slight bias to protect the biggest name (FB) ended in booking the player and leaving Paok to play for 33 min with ten players. In spite off the numerical advantage, FB did not manage to pull through except a last minute chance which was saved by the Thessalonica’s team goalie. It is worth mentioning that prior to that, young striker Papazoglou of the Greek side lost a great chance to score. Overall a good game between two teams of equal caliber.Looking forward to the rematch.
