Fenerbahçe – Kayserispor match preview

By: j | October 4th, 2008

With the Fenerbahçe extremely concerned, the future of Luis Aragonés with the club is anything but stable. The Yellow Canaries sit in tenth spot of the table, an astonishing seven points off Trabzonspor at first.

The play of the club has lacked consistency, fundamentals and a seeming reluctance to adapt to Luis Aragonés system. Incredible at this level but the problem is not as deep as it seems and can be turned around quickly. That is without consequence at this stage because in addition to this Fenerbahçe is dealing with a remarkable series of injuries and barely able to field a full team.

Unfortunately at this time the club has uncharacteristically not released injury reports and the lineup is unclear. However Josico, Semih Şentürk, Diego Lugano and Alex are all questionable to doubtful with
Daniel Güiza also having a series of injuries that could hold him out.

Kayserispor is a very difficult club to play at home this year and yet to concede a goal in their home grounds. They will play a very tight, disciplined style and will prey upon Fenerbahçe worst liability, being susceptible to the counter.

I will report upon the match as it concludes.

I really believe this match will be the end of Aragones. A team like Fener can’t go on the way it is now. Aziz Yildirim will call Luis to his office, have a couple of words and ask him to quietly leave Istanbul.

However the root of Fener’s problem is not in the coach or the injury problems, but in the upper management. Let’s take a look at Fener’s Midfield three years ago and the midfield against Sivas:

    Tuncay-Appiah-Alex-Aurelio-Deivid

    Ugur Boral-Maldonado-Alex-Josico-Kazim

I ask the Fener supporters, which midfield would you want? The man who singlehandedly changed this team is Aziz Yildirim himself. Until Aziz “Baba” leaves, this team will never reach it’s true potential.

Musab – with respect I hope you are wrong regarding Luis Aragonés. However you could be correct and certainly from the local press, it doesn’t look he’ll be around very long. I think he has fallen victim to the club not committing to his approach for partially your reasons.

    Thanks for commenting.
