Fenerbahçe defeats Kayserispor 2-0 in efficient fashion

By: j | March 8th, 2009

Fenerbahçe returned to Süper Lig action with an efficient 2-0 victory over Kayserispor 2-0. With the victory Luis Aragonés climb to fourth in the table, only three points behind Sivasspor. Once again Daniel Güiza started the match on the bench, in a move that will add further credence to speculation that his days in Istanbul are numbered. However after an early close call by the home side Semih Şentürk gave the Yellow Canaries the lead as he poached on a close range rebound. Two minutes prior to the half hour Alex’s powerful drive from long range found its way past Kayserispor ‘keeper Souleymanou Hamidou and Fenerbahçe had a confident 2-0 lead. While the Yellow Canaries were on their way to easy victory Volkan Demirel decided to foolishly lash out at Mehmet Topuz and rightfully received a straight red-card. Down a man, Volkan Babacan entered the match and took over goalkeeping duties for Fenerbahçe without allowing the home side to breach the goal.
