Fenerbahçe defeats Denizlispor in a close call
By: j | December 5th, 2008
Ümit Kayıhan’s Denizlispor put forth a strong effort but fell 1-0 to visiting Fenerbahçe with Emre BelözoÄŸlu scoring the lone goal on the hour mark. While not a resounding victory it was an important three points before next Wednesday’s critical Champions League match against Dynamo Kyiv.
With a challenging mix of injuries, Luis Aragonés left Deivid and Turkish national Emre BelözoÄŸlu out of the starting grid and while the Yellow Canaries controlled the balance of play, the match was void of true scoring opportunities after the break. Two minutes before the hour mark Luis Aragonés introduced Deivid and Emre BelözoÄŸlu into the lineup and the impact came with a stunning speed. On the hour mark Deivid provided a Emre BelözoÄŸlu well paced ball which he thundered into the back of the net. Denizlispor seemed to break down after the goal and provided Fenerbahçe a number of scoring opportunities, however each fell short, including Deivid’s improbable strike at the eightieth minute that clanged off the crossbar before being saved. However with few chances to level, the match concluded with a well-deserved 1-0 victory for Fenerbahçe.

Congratulations on the win, wasn’t the best of football, but there was no real doubt htat Fener would drop any points at Denizli, especially after Emre’s beauty.
Apparently the ball was 78 cm over the line, now thats just pathetic refereeing. There’s no excuse to not give that goal.

Very important win. The team looked better in the second half, but obviously minds were at the Kiev game.
Deivid once more struck a beautiful goal. It was not awarded, but what the hell. Only if we could start utilizing Alex well.
