Fenerbahçe defeats Antalyaspor 2-0

While few will be satisfied from overall play Fenerbahçe’s 2-0 defeat of Antalyaspor at Sukru Saracoglu will be warmly received after the fallout of the Champions League loss to Dynamo Kyiv. With the victory the Yellow Canaries are in fourth place of the Süper Lig,just below Galatasaray and two points behind Sivasspor.
The visitors showed great resolve defending but Fenerbahçe’s pedigree was too much and eleven minutes after the start Daniel Güiza brought Sukru Saracoglu to its feet chanting his name as he poached on Diego Lugano’s redirection of Alex’s set-piece. However the visitors chances were pulled back as two minutes before the break Volkan Arslan was excused with his second yellow. The match went to the break with Fenerbahçe having a slim one-goal lead mostly through the work of Antalyaspor’s veteran ‘keeper and former Turkish international Ömer Çatkıç and some dismal, almost expected by now, finishing. Although those the visitors pressed to equalize, the Yellow Canaries found the second and final goal five minutes past the hour as Diego Lugano capitalized on a loose ball in-close resulting from a corner. The balance of the match was handled professionally by Fenerbahçe as they padlocked the match down and didn’t allow Antalyaspor an opportunity to get back in it.
Fenerbahçe returns to action next Friday against Kocaelispor before the month-long break.
