Fenerbahçe collapses late to lose to Bursaspor
By: j | March 21st, 2009
In a highly physical match, Fenerbahçe collapsed late allowing two goals to lose 2-1 to Bursaspor in Süper Lig action. In conjunction with last weeks dreadful 1-1 draw to Kocaelispor, the Yellow Canaries have fallen a minimum of five points off first place Sivasspor and in danger of losing a spot in European competition.
Heading into the Bursapor tussle they knew they were facing a difficult task as the Bursa side have dropped only one match in the new year. With a top-shelf squad available for Luis Aragonés, excluding Alex, the Yellow Canaries opened the scoring four minutes in, albeit via a questionable offside call missed, as Uğur Boral provided Daniel Güiza the ball and the Spanish international sent the ball to the back of the net from inside the box. Fenerbahçe searched to the double the lead almost immediately and efforts from Semih Şentürk and Daniel Güiza near the half hour mark came within a whisper of scoring but each fell off-course. After the break the hosts, Bursaspor, began to attack with greater frequency and seemed on the verge of equalizing the match on numerous occasions. However each attempt was held at bay until four minutes remaining when Belarusian international and former Dinamo Moscow man Maksim Romaschenko’s cross into the box was sent in by Tuna Üzümcü. With the match now even, the home side thirsted for win and in the third minute of added time they found it as Gökçek Vederson was adjudged to bringing down the brilliant young striker Sercan Yıldırım in the area and the spot was pointed to. Buraspor ‘keeper Dimitar Ivankov strode up the pitch and quickly dispatched the ball past Volkan Demirel for the 2-1 victory.

Fenerbahçe is living worst season. Most of supporters didn’t trust Aziz Yıldırım and footballers of course they didn’t have self-confidence.
