Luis Aragonés will breathe a sigh of relief as Fenerbahçe advances in Türkiye Kupası with 1-0 victory over an inspired Tokatspor. While the Yellow Canaries will return home as victors, the little side from Tokat can hold their heads high with a superb performance in front of their home fans. Along with the play of Tokatspor, it had to be a very special moment for Uğur Boral as he returned to his home town wearing the armband with pride to which the faithful supporters in Gaziosmanpaşa Stadyumu did not hesitate in showing the Turkish international their appreciation.
The match was the heartiest of displays where much of the play was condemned to a prevailing blizzard and sub-zero temperatures. Quickly the Yellow Canaries took the lead nine minutes after the start as Kâzım Kâzım was the recipient of a well weighted through-ball by Deivid de Souza before dispatching the ball to the back of the net. Namık Altunsoy’s side possessed an iron will and brought their fans to their feet moments later with a near miss. Fenerbahçe attempts to add to the margin came and went without another goal and while the home side came terribly close to leveling the match with twenty minutes left it was to no avail and the match ended with a 1-0 scoreline. Of the the highlights that this will be remembered for it is best said the twelfth man in Tokat and the very special heroic treatment for Uğur Boral’s return home.
