Fenerbahçe advances in Türkiye Kupası with victory over Eskişehirspor
By: j | January 18th, 2009
Fenerbahçe’s hopes in the Türkiye Kupası continue with a 3-0 victory over EskiÅŸehirspor in a surprising cavernous Şükrü SaracoÄŸlu. EskiÅŸehirspor started quickly in the match and the Yellow Canaries were fortunate not to give up a goal early as the visitors looked prepared for a great upset. However at the twenty-fourth minute Emre Özkan was excused from the match after being adjudged to fouling Gökhan Gönül just outside the area and it is sad to say, that any report on this match would be false if it did not say it was a dreadful call and it cast a dark pall over the match. Following the call the match was an abomination and the noble visitors attempts for an upset were culled.
However now handicapped a man down, the strong effort by the visitors was bled out and Alex opened the scoring four minutes later off a through ball by Daniel Güiza. The margin was doubled when Deivid de Souza headed Alex’s corner seven minutes after the break. With match long since locked-down due to a dreadful call, Roberto Carlos made in 3-0 as he steered in a close-range rebound into the back of the net.
Fenerbahçe returns to Süper Lig action next Sunday against Trabzonspor.
