Dynamo Kyiv – Fenerbahçe match review
By: j | September 30th, 2008
Possibly the biggest surprise of the Champions League matches today was Ukraine powerhouse Dynamo Kyiv coming into Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium and squeezing out a point in a nil draw to Fenerbahçe. Şükrü Saracoğlu has been a fortress for the home squad in the past with eight successive victories in European competition however the inability to gain a full three points puts a damper on their efforts to advancing in the Champions League.
For the most part Dynamo Kyiv was the aggressor in play, particularly before the break although both ‘keepers were barely tested in the tightly marked match that was played between the boxes. Of the opportunities that came along, such as Ismaël Bangoura dreadful volley after the half hour mark upon Volkan Demirel bumbling clearance or Daniel Güiza thwarted efforts with thirteen minutes, each lacked credible finishing. Possibly the most likely scoring chance was Emre Belözoğlu’s attempt a few minutes after the break that Dynamo Kyiv ‘keeper Stanislav Bogush managed to hold back and the match ended in a 0-0 draw.
