Ankaragücü hold Fenerbahçe hold to scoreless draw

While many will debate the availability of quality young Turkish managers, Ankaragücü’s Ünal Karaman is deserving of special notice and in my opinion of being on every “short-list”. The forty-two year-old not only possess a rich curriculum vitae as a player but a notable managerial one within a diverse background that includes working on younger developing players but never shying away from tough challenges. As head man of MKE Ankaragücü I am more than aware that is club may not possess the budget for the finest pedigree but equally expect them to have a leg-up on their opposition because of the tactical guile that Mr Karaman provides.
As the Yellow Canaries were set to face Ankaragücü in the historic city of Ankara, the home side made a wise tactical decision and effectively strangled off Fenerbahçe attacking forces. It was the brilliant game within the game that could easily have been missed but where Mr Karaman used the classic tactical decision to “force” the oppositions attack by laying out your defensive plan. Statistically the numbers distort the facts that most offensive forays were from highly unprobable angles and sight lines were skewed. While some might question the “intrigue” of a nil score-line, tactically this was a superb chess-match and a great outcome for MKE Ankaragücü
The draw maintains Fenerbahçe six-place position in the table. They return to action this Tuesday as they welcome Porto to Şükrü Saracoğlu in the Champions League.
